EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing)

Sometimes, life events are just too overwhelming to process at the time they occur. Being too young, not having enough support, being in an unsafe environment, or having too much going on already when the event occurs are just some of the reasons processing can get stuck. When events are not processed, all of the disturbing emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations associated with the experience get locked in your brain. Without treatment, those thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations associated with the disturbing event can lead to increasingly troubling symptoms and unsettling behavior.

EMDR can help you process through and let go of disturbing thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations so that you can move on from the past and feel more present in your current life. EMDR does not alter your memories or make them go away, it just helps you to let go of the pain and not continue to suffer from the experience. After disturbing experiences have been cleared, your brain is able to again take in information and process it accurately.

EMDR uses eye movement and various other techniques to process disturbing memories and life experiences.
